Meet Richard Muthoga Mwaura, Found and Director of Kiboko Wilderness Adventures
As a child growing up and the slopes of Western Side of Mount Kenya , I used to accompany my elder brothers and friends in the dense thick Mount Kenya forest to look after our domesticated animals. As I watched them go about their business in this thick forest performing all surival tactics I was overwhelmed by their exeprience. I took a point of learning how they knew the various trees and shrubs, tracks of various animals and above all how they avoided wild animal encounters. This exprience I would say instilled me the desire to live comfortably in the outdoors.
During my elementary and high school I joined the boy scouts movement in Kenya and this offered me an opportunity to exprlore even more various points of interest in Kenya. By the virtue of living near the town (Nyeri) where the founder of boy scout Baden Powell remains were laid to rest I had an opportunity to meet various scouts around the globe and this made me appreciate different people of different nationalities.
I undertook a 3 week long and 3 months longs program in East Africa with the National Outdoor Leadership School(NOLS). The program was involved of participants traveling around Eas Africa learning the culture, enviromental awareness, first Aid and enjoying the abundant flora and fauna the East Africa has to offer. After My high school I proceded to the pretigious Nairobi University and graduated with Bachelors in Education majoring in Economics. During my tenure as an undergraduate I volunteered in various clubs and helped in organizings excursions for novice outdoorers. I have taught in a number of schools and helped them forms clubs geared to making them aware of the various oportunites that people can enjoy in outdoors.
On my career I have worked as an outdoor leader extensively both in East Africa and North America with such organization as NOLS, Teva adventure, Wilderness Inquiry and more private ones in East Africa. Certified NOLS instructor and Wilderness First Responder and at the same time CPR certified.
Outside my work I like listesting to music from various artists africa beat being my favourite, socialsing with my friends, interent surfing, watching a soccer game, travelling and above all nyama choma( barbaque). Overall I believe I am a responsible, dedicated and hardworking person. |
